Helping women find relief from stress, anxiety, burnout, and deep emotional pain

While you continue to juggle it all, you can no longer deny that the pressure you are under is taking an emotional toll on you. Lately, you have found yourself thinking that you really do not like “the you” who you have become.

You may notice that you are increasingly impatient with family, friends, or loved ones followed by deep regret for your role in those unpleasant interactions you wish had never even happened in the first place. Perhaps you are feeling devastated by a painful life event you never saw coming or finding certain life changes to be more of a struggle than you ever could have imagined. It could also be that you are feeling burned out in your professional life and not experiencing the rewards from your career as you once did.

You believed your life would be meaningful and fulfilling. That you would be part of the solutions, not the problems. That each day, in some small way, you would contribute to making the world a better place. You knew you’d face some strife along the way, but you honestly believed you could beat all obstacles and that life would not be this hard. When you take an honest look at yourself today though, you realize just how overwhelmed you have become. You’re constantly trying to keep your cool and on your worst days it seems like you’ll never regain the confidence and peace you once experienced so effortlessly.

Well, I am here to tell you that you can feel like yourself again. Being understandably overwhelmed while juggling all those demands does not have to mean that you don’t recognize, let alone like, the person you have become. You are completely capable of regaining your confidence, returning balance to your life, and truly liking yourself again.

Hi! I’m Dr. Jennifer McManus and there’s one thing I know for sure

All women deserve their own love and compassion.

Sometimes when you have difficulty managing your reactions to stressful aspects of life, you wind up thinking, feeling, and acting in ways that are out of alignment with who you really are. When this happens, you can start to feel even more overwhelmed and undeserving of your own compassion. And it often feels like you will be stuck in this vicious cycle forever.

This doesn’t mean you can no longer handle life’s challenges with confidence. It simply means you need to make small, but consistent changes to feel balanced. Often, when you’ve been under relentless stress or emotional pain for so long, it can feel like there is no other option than to suffer through these pressures without any hope of them ever getting better.

Soon you’re left wondering if you will ever achieve that meaningful and fulfilling life for yourself that once seemed so attainable.

But the truth is, healing from emotional pain is hard work. And it’s normal to feel exhausted from a lifetime of meeting demands and trying to achieve unrealistic expectations. Even though you feel emotionally burdened now, it doesn’t have to keep you from taking small steps each day towards the fulfilling life you desire and deserve. Instead, you can pour some energy into yourself again and reclaim your clarity, confidence, and life balance.

That’s where I come in:

Hello!

I’m Dr. Jennifer McManus and I’m a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Florida.

I am dedicated to helping women find their own life balance. I am passionate about helping women feel like themselves again so they can live their lives to the fullest. I light up when my clients feel peaceful with renewed hope for the future. And, oh, those ripple effects.

Counseling often impacts more than only the therapy client’s life in positive ways. The kind of transformation one can experience from participating in psychotherapy has the potential for some serious ripple effects. When we improve our own emotional well-being, we bring our ideal self to each interaction, whether that be with our significant other, family, friends, or colleagues.

When you schedule a therapy session with me, you will start to see that finding balance in your life and liking yourself again are entirely possible.

Let me introduce myself

I am a Licensed Psychologist in Florida who is passionate about providing high quality psychotherapy. I have over 10 years of experience in clinical psychology providing psychotherapy, counseling, psychological assessment, consultation, supervision, and training.

Prior to opening my private practice, I was a hospital psychology director for 5 years. Through this role, I gained direct experience of the unique challenges faced by those in demanding leadership positions. I considered supporting my employees and colleagues with managing stress and preventing professional burnout to be among my most important responsibilities. I have to admit, part of the reason I resigned from hospital service to open my own private practice was because I felt called to support other professionals with stress and burnout at a deeper and more meaningful level than was possible in my prior professional role.

While my current professional work focuses on providing psychotherapy to professionals, entrepreneurs, and other high-profile members of society, I got my start in the field of psychology serving people experiencing homelessness. I consider it a privilege to support people all along the continuum of life circumstances with the changes they seek. I’ve even been known to get goosebumps in session when my clients have breakthroughs!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a therapist and a psychologist?

You may have noticed different licensure types in your search for the right therapist. In the state of Florida, there are 4 different licensure types associated with therapists. The 4 professions are Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Licensed Psychologist. A doctoral degree like a PhD is required to be a psychologist, which typically involves 5 additional years of education following the undergraduate degree. A master’s degree is required for the other licensure types and is usually only 2 years of education beyond the bachelor's degree. As such, a Licensed Psychologist is considered the most advanced type of licensure for therapists. Licensed psychologists are often the type of therapist chosen by clients who want to ensure they are receiving quality care from a clinician with the highest possible credentials.

Can you prescribe medication to help with my concerns?

Although medication can be an important part of treatment for emotional concerns, licensed psychologists in Florida are not authorized to prescribe medications. Psychiatrists are the medical doctors who specialize in prescribing medication for mental health matters. I am happy to refer my clients to psychiatrists who I know provide quality care if I am of the clinical opinion that medication should be considered in addition to the therapy I provide; however, as a result of counseling, many people learn to work through the struggles that brought them to therapy without the use of prescribed medications.
